"Setting and gardens are lovely, the cabins beds are very comfortable and cosy on cold nights in the mountains. Wood burning stoves in the bar and dining room add a lovely atmosphere"

"Slightly disappointed by the food, it is a varied menu but lacks ‘wow’ with some dishes served slightly cold (soup) or already melted (tiramisu). The first night there they handed out tepid hot water bottles (!) - electric blankets on the beds would be a better touch?"

"Lovely garden setting, nestled in the hillside, beside a peaceful river. Helpful reception staff. Nice ambience in the restaurant. Very welcome hot shower. We were unsure whether to do the 5 am quetzal tour, but when our experienced guide from the lodge tracked down the quetzals we were delighted at the sights and photos - a very worthwhile early start."

"Far too much bedding in a small cabin room. The blanket and duvet were welcome, but there was absolutely nowhere to put two large bolster pillows, three large cushions - and more! We would have preferred more space for our own things."

"The location and the way the lodgings are built is very nice. It was very clean and well maintained. The area in general is unspoilt and good for exploring on foot."

"The restaurant is very expensive for what it is (and cold). Temperatures drop to 5C or so overnight and you'll likely need your coat on. Also, one of the staff (the head waiter) was exceptionally rude one evening because I dared to arrive ahead of my allotted time. The restaurant was pretty empty and is also one of the only places you can get WiFi, along with the bar (which was completely full - hence why I went to the restaurant early). I went elsewhere for dinner and had a very nice meal, which was much more reasonably priced - and experienced far better customer service. The other staff in the restaurant (particularly Sebastian) were excellent though - he was obviously very embarrassed about what happened and went above and beyond to try to help the following day. Thank you to him!"

"Beautiful setting and very comfortable lodges with nice touches such as hot water bottles. Lovely gardens and nice trails. Comfortable bar and deck with further seating and lounging areas around the gardens. Great tours for birders. The road down is "interesting" but added to the vibe of being in nature. Sorry we only stayed one night."

"The restaurant is good and has paid attention to all the aspects of a good restaurant, however, there could be some adjustment to some of the dishes to make them more refined and on par with the prices. However, the breakfast as part of the room deal was good."

"Trogon Lodge was a perfect stopping place for us as we were driving from Corcovado to Tortuguero, it was not too far off the main road so didn’t add too many extra miles to our journey. There are a couple of little walks you can do ( which we did as limited on time ) or there are lots of arranged guided tours if you are staying for longer. The bar was lovely but quite busy as it’s one of the only places you could connect to WiFi so everyone was in there. The other place is the restaurant or reception. Breakfast was included and it was very nice. More of a buffet style being that it was more of a hotel. We also had dinner at the restaurant, it was delicious but expensive. The cabin itself was very cute, a little dark but we weren’t inside much so it wasn’t too bad. It was also very cold. Being so high up it was expected to be cold but there was only a small heater in the room. Thankfully there was plenty of blankets for the bed."
