"Characterful decor by the artist owner. Bathroom has a great bathtub. Very friendly reception from the proprietor. I had to skip breakfast as I was in a hurry, but it looked great, everyone sitting round a nice big dining table. Will certainly stay there again."

"A most beautiful eclectic & quirky Bed & Breakfast. Parking on site is secure & safe. The owner was so welcoming when we arrived a little early & offered us tea & coffee, which was very welcome after a 3 hour drive. He gave us a lot of interesting information on the history of the house. The room was beautifully decorated on the top floor. ( if you find climbing stairs a little difficult, ask for a first floor room). The dining room was set out to share the table with fellow travellers, which encouraged interesting conversation. The breakfast offered was varied & of good quality. Lovely home made jams, fruit, yohgurt & very tasty French cheeses. If requested eggs & ham as well. Teas and coffee. The house in addition has a lovely back garden, ideal for those lovely summer days. So all in all a very pleasant stop over for us. Would highly recommend."

"Location was what we wanted i.e. Valenciennes and near (15 minute walk) to the station for trains into Lille. Parking on the site is plentiful and very secure Quiet in the house and garden despite being on a main road. Everything about the place was delightful. The building itself, the artwork and decor, the garden. Shower and bathroom facilities (room 3) are very good. Bed very good. The breakfast was great and the host/owner Philippe was so helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable. Thoroughly recommend Le Grand Duc, if you like an old style building with a modern and creative approach to the decor and a very welcoming and comfortable approach from the host."
