"The location was great. The pool was a great surprise. A good size and very clean. The puddings in the restaurant, excellent."

Evening village life is a separate show, unfortunately we couldn't find any entertainment nearby. And the wealthier residents instead gathered at our place of stay."

The first night we had trouble sleeping because at 3AM all the villagers started making noise (roosters, dogs, cats, turkeys, goats, sheep) but by the second and third we were already used to the village sounds.

"Location was spot on, right in the city centre and close to the bus station. The beach is 5 minutes away. Lovely lady at the front desk. She upgraded me to a sea view room, without me even asking."

The hotel is a bit dated, but you've got what you pay for.

"Location was good, the rest of the accommodation was of a very poor standard."

There were no towels in the room, no heater, no power point to plug the electric blankets or the bedside lamp into, no spare blankets, poorly made beds. Shared bathroom was not cleaned regularly and was leaking water on the floor from the toilet.

"Mohammad was quite helpful. The sizes were quite small but did meet the purpose. A little over priced TBH but was OK."

"We had a very pleasant stay. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, which made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained, and the bed was very comfortable — we slept really well. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and quiet, perfect for a short getaway. Very isolated, surrounded by an abandoned resort. Menu very limited and expensive although the chef was very obliging and did cook of menu dishes for those who asked. Our room wasn’t cleaned twice and we had to remind someone to do it, we had to move rooms as the toilet facilities broke on our first room but this was handled quickly. For the cost of the room I would have expected a little more e.g. bottled water free in the room, tissues to be available in the room, better quality toilet paper.

Given that there are no other places close to the hotel where you can buy food , the hotel restaurant should have more choices of food.

"Island Hopper was recommended by a friend and didn't disappoint. The staff made us feel at 'home' right from the airport pick up. The beds are more comfortable than ours at home. The restaurant is also excellent! Hope to be back one day."

The size of the room was a little cramped.

Main dining area felt rather utiltarian. Food was fine , service friendly. The bingo/ karaoke evening was good fun

"After a busy day of driving from Hokitika, we decided to split our drive to Kaikoura by staying at this hotel for one evening. Upon check-in the young woman clearly explained the restaurant hours, breakfast plan and how to use the outdoor jacuzzi which we definitely utilized for star-gazing later that evening. Since the hotel is literally in the middle of mountains and valleys and rivers, the views from the hotel/restaurant/villa were fantastic. We spent a few hours star-gazing the Milky Way which is our passion and one of the objectives for staying here for the evening. Given the hotel's location, the restaurant menu was quite limited which is a shame but understood given its remoteness. Lovely stay and would definitely recommend this hotel for those considering....."
